James Ketchell

Speedo, the world’s leading swimwear brand has sponsored an oceanic sized adventure with rower James Ketchell.

Continuously displaying its passion for all things in and around water Speedo is delighted to be on board with James in his solo attempt to row the Atlantic.

Leaving port today, 5th January 2010, in his boat named Speedo, Ketchell will embark on the 3,000 mile adventure alone but will be wearing products from the Speedo range to help him on his way.

He said “I wanted a real challenge and love doing things that are a little different.”

With an average crossing time of between 55 and 65 days, James will be rowing on Christmas day, but shouldn’t be too cold as he will start from La Gomera in the Canary Islands and finish in Antigua in the West Indies.

James is also aware there are dangers involved “It may seam strange but rowing is only a small part of this challenge, staying alive is the priority. Getting to Antigua as quickly as possible comes second.”

Ketchell is attempting the Atlantic Rowing Race, one of the most difficult tests of human endurance, in aid of the NSPCC- a charity close to his heart.

Speedo are tracking and covering his journey across the Atlantic with pictures and blogs from the boat on speedo.co.uk, speedo.com and our facebook page so tune in for regular updates on the Atlantic adventurer.

Everyone at Speedo wishes James the best of luck on his challenge and look forward to welcoming him back to dry land in February.
